KID REPORTERS’ NOTEBOOK
Tegan Marie: A Rising Star
Twelve-year-old Tegan Marie is a rising country singer/songwriter from Flint, Michigan. Tegan has been playing the guitar since she was six years old and writing music since she was eight. She has already released two singles on iTunes, A Christmas Tree and Lucky Me.
“Music is my inspiration,” Tegan recently told me in a phone interview.
Tegan got her first break when she was discovered by Sweety High, a media platform that helps talented girls fulfill their dreams. The young star now opens for Granger Smith, Hunter Hayes, and other performers. Through Sweety High, Tegan was able to meet one of her biggest inspirations, singer Kelsea Ballerini.
For someone who isn’t even a teenager yet, Tegan has a busy schedule. On April 30, she will appear at the Radio Disney Music Awards. In May, she will visit Florida and New York to open for country acts Hunter Hayes, Maddie & Tae, and Cam.
What’s it like to share the stage with such big stars? “The feeling is amazing, and I can’t believe it,” Tegan said.
A DREAM COME TRUE
Despite her busy schedule, Tegan still maintains an A average in school. After school, she can be found taking piano lessons, doing her homework, singing, or practicing the guitar.
On April 7, Tegan performed at a benefit concert in Flint with Granger Smith. The proceeds went to Hurley Children’s Clinic to help families affected by the water crisis.
Whether Tegan is playing music or attending awards shows, her success is proof that dreams really do come true.
