KID REPORTERS’ NOTEBOOK
A Busy Family
During a recent visit to the White House, I asked First Lady Michelle Obama if she had any unusual talents. “I can jump-rope for days," she said. “I can jump and jump. I can jump with my eyes closed. I can jump without missing, and I can double-jump.”
The First Lady, who also likes to hula hoop, said that she and President Barack Obama try to set a good example for their daughters, Malia and Sasha, by exercising regularly.
“We work out almost every single day, “Mrs. Obama said. “We have a trainer, and I do classes. I love SoulCycle. I want my kids to see me moving around.”
As for the president’s talents, “he’s really smart,” Mrs. Obama said. “That’s a talent!”
With President Barack Obama’s two terms in office coming to a close in January, the First Lady reflected on her family’s time in the White House. It’s not like living in an ordinary house.
“It’s like being in a big condominium where you come into the lobby, and you don’t know who you’re going to run into,” Mrs. Obama said. “You could run into the Secretary of State, or you could run into a family visiting.”
EATING MY VEGGIES
After the interview, the First Lady joined visitors in the Kitchen Garden on the South Lawn of the White House. Photographers snapped pictures and reporters took notes as local schoolchildren helped pick sweet potatoes, chili peppers, and other vegetables.
After hearing the First Lady talk about staying healthy, I think I’ll finally start eating my veggies.
