Kansas City Celebrates Super Bowl Win
On February 12, the Kansas City Chiefs pulled off a historic win in Super Bowl LVII. The Super Bowl is an annual championship football game that determines the best team in the National Football League (NFL). The first Super Bowl was held in 1967.
In Super Bowl LVII, the Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35, with a last-minute field goal. The team took home the Vince Lombardi Trophy, which is named after a legendary NFL coach.
Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named the game’s most valuable player. In the past three years, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to two Super Bowl victories. He was also named MVP after the team’s 2020 win.
“LIKE CHRISTMAS MORNING”
I live in Kansas City, which straddles the Missouri and Kansas state lines. I was able to experience the Chiefs’ victory firsthand. After the win, the streets quickly filled with people who were celebrating and cheering. Fireworks lit up the night sky.
Three days later, the team hosted a victory parade. Most school districts in the Kansas City area canceled classes for the day. Many businesses were closed for the celebration.
More than 800,000 fans attended the parade. People lined up as early as 6 a.m. to get a prime view of the event.
The parade began with a rally. Some Chiefs players addressed the crowd, including Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce. Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas also spoke. “It’s like Christmas morning,” he said.
The event concluded with a Beastie Boys song, “Fight for Your Right.” The song has become popular with the team and their fans.
Afterwards, I asked some fans their thoughts on the game and how they celebrated the win. Here’s what they said:
Max Wardin, 12
As soon as the Chiefs won, I was very happy. They’re my favorite team. I could brag to all of my friends who were cheering for the Eagles. When I was watching the Super Bowl, I was at a party. I was very nervous because it was so close. But when the Chiefs won, I was overjoyed. My favorite player is definitely Patrick Mahomes. He’s so good and seems like a nice guy. I celebrated the win by wearing my Chiefs gear the next day to school.

My favorite Chiefs player is wide receiver Skyy Moore. He scored his first touchdown all year in the Super Bowl. He’s a rookie and only 22 years old. I had an amazing time at the Chiefs parade. I got my hat signed by Moore.
Varsha Thummaty, 16
I felt overjoyed. The win meant it was going to be a senior skip day at our school. My favorite player is linebacker Nick Bolton. I’m so happy that the Chiefs are Super Bowl champions again.

We attended a small Super Bowl party with friends. We joined the same friends a few weeks ago for the conference championship. Our friends were feeling superstitious, so we all agreed to sit in the same seats as last time.
I always enjoy watching games with good company. When the Chiefs won, everyone was cheering and hugging. It was nice to see all of their joy.

My family threw a Super Bowl party at home to celebrate with family and friends. When I got to the parade, the energy was electric. Players and family members were filled with excitement as they waited for the parade to take off. Mingling with fans and families, everyone was smiling from ear to ear. Everyone was so happy and proud to be from Kansas City. I feel so lucky to have been able to experience this—especially after so many years growing up doing the opposite. What a time to be alive!
